Our core values

  • Fair Opportunity

We believe every student deserves the opportunity to discover and pursue competitions, regardless of their school district or circumstances.

  • Trust & Care

We recognize the responsibility that comes with serving students and educational institutions. We value privacy, safety, and the trust placed in us by the communities we serve.

  • Clear Pathways

We believe students should understand what opportunities exist, what participation entails, and how to take their next steps.

  • Meaningful Participation

We believe the value of an opportunity lies in a student's ability to pursue it. Our work is guided by the goal of bringing more students into competitions.

Our founder story

Causey was founded by Cornell University students, inspired by an experience our founder, Myshay Causey, had as a competitive chess player.

Children concentrating at a row of chess boards in a bright classroom.

A new district opened a door.

When Myshay reached nationals, it wasn't because her skill had suddenly improved or because she had started working harder. She had already been practicing and searching for competitions. What changed was the school district she attended.

Her experience revealed a problem that extends far beyond chess. Academic competitions are fragmented across organizations, websites, and school districts. Students can have the passion and potential to compete yet miss opportunities simply because they never knew those opportunities existed.

We founded Causey to change that.

Our platform brings academic competitions into one place, making it easier for students to discover opportunities, understand participation requirements and costs, and identify the steps needed to compete. We work with schools to expand access to these opportunities while connecting competition hosts with students and educators interested in participating.

We believe a student's ability to compete should be determined by their passion and potential, not their school district or access to information. That belief is what brought us together and continues to guide what we are building at Causey.
