UIL One-Act Play

Prepare a school production and advance through adjudicated UIL meets toward State.

Who it’s for: Students at eligible Texas UIL high schools

Your first step

Ask your theatre director about school entry, the approved play list, and production requirements.

Open official guide ↗

The route

  1. 1
    School production

Prepare an eligible play under the school’s UIL entry.

  2. 2
    Zone and district

Compete at the initial levels assigned to your school; zone is used where applicable.

  3. 3
    Bi-district and area

Selected productions advance through these meets.

  4. 4
    Region

Regional judging selects productions for State.

  5. 5
    State

Qualifying productions perform at the State Meet.

Before you commit: The production advances as a group; an individual acting award does not replace production selection, and play approval is required.
