UIL Speech and Debate

Choose a UIL speech or debate event and follow its school-based route to State.

Who it’s for: Students at eligible Texas UIL schools

Your first step

Ask your UIL coach whether you are entering CX, Lincoln-Douglas, Congress, or a speech event.

Open official guide ↗

The route

  1. 1
    School entry

Your coach enters the appropriate UIL contest and district or region.

  2. 2
    Qualifying meets

CX advances from district to State; Lincoln-Douglas and individual speech use district and regional meets; Congress starts at region.

  3. 3
    State meet

Only entries advanced under their event rules compete at State.

Before you commit: The events follow different routes; an invitational result is not itself a State qualification.
